This course meets the 1-hour Florida HIV/AIDS requirement. 

This course is designed to provide clinical laboratory personnel with updated, evidence-based knowledge on HIV/AIDS, including transmission, diagnostic testing, treatment, prevention strategies, occupational and nonoccupational exposure management, and relevant Florida laws governing testing and confidentiality. The goals of this course include:

  • Strengthening knowledge of the HIV life cycle and the stages of HIV infection.
  • Expanding awareness of current HIV prevention strategies, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and nonoccupational post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP).
  • Clarifying national HIV screening recommendations and modern diagnostic testing methods.
  • Reinforcing understanding of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Association of Public Health Laboratories (CDC/APHL) testing algorithm using in clinical laboratories.
  • Advancing knowledge of occupational HIV exposure risks and post-exposure management guidelines.
  • Improving understanding of Florida statutes regarding HIV testing, reporting, confidentiality, and patient rights.
