Chapter 3: “Sample Processing and Specimen Misidentification” • Variation in factors associated with transportation of samples to the laboratory, including time, temperature, and specimen handling, and the influence of these factors on specific analytes • Effects of centrifugation times, temperature, speed, and storage conditions on analytes • Cross-contamination of specimens and measures taken to minimize cross-contamination • Sample misidentification, including consequences resulting in patient harm, and measures to detect errors in sample identification.
